Cocktails should be special, and delicious, and in my opinion, beautiful to look at. The beautiful color, and bold sweetness of the beets in this old fashioned make the drink really spectacular. I used a ginger simple syrup to add an extra little kick. Beets & FODMAPs Note from Dédé: Beets are low FODMAP in amounts of 20g, which roughly translates to a couple of slices. But what about beet juice? Well, we are extrapolating for our low FODMAP purposes. The recipe calls for .75 ounces of juice, which is roughly 20g. You could juice your own beets, if you have a juicer. Or you could buy a 100% beet juice product, such as Lakewood Organic Pure Beet Juice. Any which way, try the drink and see how you do. That’s the ultimate […]

The bombs are made with just chocolate and cream! Ganache Is Versatile Ganache is a combination of chocolate and cream and is often used for cake and pastry glazes and for truffles, but it is quite versatile – like for making hot chocolate! Read on… It is not unusual for me to have extra ganache in the refrigerator (I know, I know, my fridge is not the typical fridge), and it was that treasure trove that led to this hot chocolate truffle bomb “invention.”  Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention When my twins were young and wanted hot chocolate, one day I just scooped some ganache into a mug, topped with milk and microwaved until hot, stirred until blended, and voilà, truly delicious hot chocolate prepared in record time.  […]

Yes? In a beverage? Why not? This festive, sparkling and easy-to-make beverage is brought to us by my friend Maureen Petrosky and excerpted from her book, ZERO PROOF drinks & more 100 Recipes for Mocktails & Low-Alcohol Cocktails. The flavors of strawberry, lime and ginger are about as refreshing as you can get! No FODMAP Fruit Strawberries are one of several fruit that contain no FODMAPs; you can learn more in our article No FODMAP Foods. While the low FODMAP diet is not a “no” FODMAP diet, but rather a low FODMAP diet, it is handy to know what foods contain no FODMAPs as they can adjunct whatever else you are eating.  Ginger Contains No FODMAPs Fresh gingerroot is another food that contains no FODMAPs according to Monash University lab testing. When I saw this drink in Maureen’s book, I thought it was tailor-made for us! Choosing Ginger […]

Low FODMAP Coffee Liqueur https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/recipes/low-fodmap-coffee-liqueur/ https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/recipes/low-fodmap-coffee-liqueur/#respond Sat, 06 Mar 2021 11:01:36 +0000 https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/?post_type=recipe&p=43313 Our Low FODMAP Coffee Liqueur is our version of “Kahlua”, which is rum based and therefore high FODMAP. This coffee liqueur is based on vodka, so it is an approximation, but if you are looking for a coffee liqueur to sip, pour over ice, a scoop of ice cream, add to your coffee, or to use to make a White Russian (see below), then this is the recipe you have been waiting for. About Creating Low FODMAP Coffee Liqueur I have a BFF, Mary, who I have known since the 80s. She is an amazing cook and baker and has helped me develop, test and taste recipes over the decades. She said to me, “Dédé, this one broke me”. Let me explain. If you research homemade coffee liqueurs on the Internet, you will find all sorts of approaches and ratios of ingredients. Since the low FODMAP diet can be so […]

That’s it. You’ll be sipping our Low FODMAP Salted Caramel Liqueur! How To Make Low FODMAP Salted Caramel Liqueur Place the Low FODMAP Salted Caramel Sauce and half of the lactose-free half-and-half in a saucepan and heat very gently over low-medium heat, just until caramel dissolves and incorporates with the half-and-half, whisking gently. Remove from heat and cool. Whisk in vodka and remaining half-and-half, then strain through a very fine-meshed strainer into bottles, seal tight and store up to 1 month in the refrigerator. I do like it best if chilled overnight before imbibing, but it isn’t absolutely necessary.  Your Low FODMAP Salted Caramel Liqueur is ready to serve, straight-up or on the rocks or incorporated into your favorite drink, keeping in mind FODMAPs in your mixers. Assuming those are Australian shot glasses that would be 30 ml. They do state 30 g. This means you could buy Grand Marnier and have some! We are leaving this recipe here for those of you who might want to make their own version. Low FODMAP Orange Liqueur! This is our homemade version of Grand Marnier, made low FODMAP. Grand Marnier contains brandy, which had not been tested for FODMAPs at the time of us developing this recipe. We have used navel orange peel, bitter orange peel (more on that later), and low FODMAP vodka and whiskey, in addition to sugar and water, to make an orange liqueur we know you will love. Low FODMAP Irish Cream Liqueur https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/recipes/low-fodmap-irish-cream-liqueur/ https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/recipes/low-fodmap-irish-cream-liqueur/#respond Sat, 06 Mar 2021 11:00:17 +0000 https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/?post_type=recipe&p=43365 This Low FODMAP Irish Cream Liqueur is lactose-free and features Irish whiskey and real dairy cream for a true-to-the-original experience (just like Bailey’s Original Irish Cream). Sláinte! Our Low FODMAP Irish Cream Liqueur As always, I am interested in using high quality ingredients, so using fresh dairy cream was a must for me. If you can find lactose-free heavy cream, use it. But you can use regular heavy cream as well. (Please do not ask if you can use coconut based sweetened condensed milk; Irish cream liqueur does not contain coconut and it would alter the flavor as well as the FODMAP load. It would not be a Bailey’s dupe). For the chocolate part, I chose to use pure natural cocoa. I used Bustelo instant coffee for this recipe; it is such as small amount, it is really about adding dimension and complexity, rather than actual coffee flavor. For more information about […]

It begins with a sugar sweetened peach purée featuring a low FODMAP amount of yellow peaches (more below). You can stir this purée into black iced tea, as we did for the images, or it works beautifully in green or white tea, too. Please read our article Tea & FODMAPs for general tea information. Are Peaches Low FODMAP? We have written extensively on the various kinds of peaches that have been lab tested by both Monash University and FODMAP Friendly in our article, Explore An Ingredient: Peaches, which we strongly suggest you read. We use yellow peaches for this peach syrup, as Monash has lab tested them and declared them low FODMAP in 30 g amounts. This is what 30 g looks like. Each of those wedges is a low FODMAP serving size. You […]
